CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University has proposed criminal action against Priyadarshini Dental College’s management and one of its dental students Karishma Irfan for furnishing fake records to show that the student had completed her compulsory rotatory internship.
Irfan, who was awarded the degree, has registered with the dental council and is now allowed to practice dentistry. “We can declare her degree null and void, but we don’t want to do just that. The student had earlier written to us complaining against the college for demanding money to apply for maternity leave. We also want to ensure the college has not faked internship logbooks of more students. This needs a detailed investigation,” a university official said.
The university will discuss further courses of action against the college, including police complaints with forgery and cheating. It will discuss ways to prevent such incidents during the general council meeting on Tuesday. University officials refused to speak on the record. Still, they said another medical student from a self-financing college in Chennai who did not complete his internship had asked the university to consider his case and award a degree. “We do not want to encourage this,” the official said. Going by the records of Priyadarshini Dental College, the woman worked in the hospital on the day of her C-Section and months that followed without a break. Irked by the serious lapse, the university asked the college to return her degrees in March. Last week, the college dean Dr. M K Venkat Prasad, wrote to the university saying that the student is not answering her phone and her father has refused to return the degree.
In February, the university officials found Karishma Irfan’s application for “condonation of the break” in compulsory rotatory internship due to maternity was pending. They also found that the college, which had applied for the condonation, declared her fit to receive a BDS degree even before her leave petition could be approved. “At least ten department heads sign the attendance and give remarks of performance. The records show that a day after her delivery, March 31, 2017, she has been transferred to the department of pedodontics. She worked there for a month in April 2017, and the department has marked her performance as ‘excellent,” the official said, pointing to the internship completion schedule.
The second most looked at qualifications is you must have strong computer skills preferred; ability to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required. After reading all of my internships, I had seen this one qualification come up a few times out of all the internship qualifications mentioned. Having good computer skills, in my opinion, is probably one of the most important to have because you have to know how to do statistics, and things such as prices. When it comes to using your computer skills in your internship, it all depends on what department you work in, but for basically all of them, you have to know how to use Microsoft Word to write down articles and memos. Finally, as I had said before out of the many qualifications that you have to have out there, the qualification of good computer skills is probably one of the most important to have because in your internship program you usually are mostly working around a computer if you’re not working hands-on with the pro team or company.
The third and final qualification recommended many times was the qualification of having a good strong background and idea of sports itself. Having this qualification is probably the most important one of all. The reason, as you can see, is pretty obvious. If you want to get an internship with a professional sports team, you better have a good background of that professional team and sports itself. As a matter of fact, if you want to go into an internship for any type of field, you have to have a good background and information about it because otherwise, you will not know what you are doing. So when you are looking for a good internship in something that you like, make sure that you know what you are doing and have a good idea and sense of the sport and team itself.
